Tom and Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale Movie Review
Tom and Jerry movie review and this time it is Tom and Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale! Let’s begin the review! Okay so let’s talk about the opening of this movie. I absolutely hated the song that the cats sung and apparently, Tom could sing so…. If he could sing why can’t he speak for like, the rest of the movie? The toys also come to life in this scene and it really freaked me out how Paulie the Pixie had to pick up his decapitated head to keep it back in its place.
I know that he is a toy but still, this toy decapitation thing happens in even more scenes of the movie and I don’t know why they decided to include it so many times in a kids movie. Anyways, Jerry and that Ballerina toy starts dancing with each other and they suddenly become king and queen of a snow kingdom, I guess? However, their rule doesn’t last long as the cats invade their kingdom and attack all of them and even capture the Ballerina.
Most of them are defeated and captured due to the viciousness of the cats but Jerry, Paulie and Nelly the Horse somehow escape from there, not on their own but thanks to Tom’s stupidity, to reach the Toy Maker! I found it really dumb how they had to follow a star that somehow looked WAY bigger than the other ones and glowed WAY more to reach the Toy Maker. Sure, a map would be cliche but at least it would be a little less dumb.
The thing that I did not find dumb, however, was their actual journey to the toy maker since the journey itself was absolutely fantastic! It was just what you would expect an adventure with Jerry and his friends to be. I especially loved that scene where Jerry almost drowned since that scene was one of the few intense scenes of this movie, if not the only one! I was actually worried that Jerry would be unable to get out of there and that Nelly and Paulie would have to get in that freezing cold water to help him out. However, that wasn’t needed since Jerry managed to free himself from the wrath of the evil seaplant all alone.
Tom and some other cats also started following Jerry after they got the news that they were looking for the Toy Maker. I thought that they were the most hilarious part of this movie, especially in the Christmas Tree scene. That scene is animated pretty well too and is a nice and funny scene overall. I also liked the scenes where Tuffy was messing with Tom. There’s a scene where Jerry and the rest of his friends stumble upon a place filled with lava and hot steam where to happen to find some… Rattle Dragons? It’s a pretty weird scene and I thought it was really unneeded and was just there to pad the runtime. Okay so now let’s talk about the robot bird scene and this movie was absolutely horrifying.
This scene is responsible for my fear of bird beaks. But I liked the music that the birds were chirping while poking and slowly destroying Tom’s poor head. Okay so now let’s talk about the most fun scene of this movie which is appropriately, the Fun House scene! Tom chases Jerry like usual and tries to crush him with the hammer of one of those hammer strength testing machine thingies but the hammer instead lands on the machine itself which turns out to give rather rude results if you don’t hit hard enough.
The Horse scene was also fun due to Tuffy messing with Tom once again by taking control over the on and off switch and the Teacup Ride scene was fine but the best part of this Funhouse scene had to be the Rollercoaster Ride. It was so fun to see Tom and Jerry getting scared together due to a rollercoaster ride. Okay so Jerry and Paulie escape Tom and the others by floating off with their balloons and Tom even turns into Batcat for a second to stop them but is unable to do so.
However, Nelly’s balloon pops and she lands on the snow once again and no matter how hard she tries to run from the cats, she ultimately gets captured. And then an evil cat scientist appears out of nowhere so that he could make Nelly say where Jerry, Tuffy and Paulie went so that this movie could still continue. Okay so Jerry, Tuffy and Paulie finally reach the Toy Maker who is basically Santa Clause but a toy maker. He even says “Ho oh” before he leaves. Anyways, after they reach the toy maker the get access to hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of small but dangerous nutcrackers who easily manage to defeat Tom and the other cats and bring down their kingdom, similar to the way the cats brought down Jerry’s kingdom. I like the full circle feeling to it.
I also liked how well the nutcrackers were able to co-operate with each other and how well they were able to become an actually strong army! And at the end, Nelly sacrifices herself for Jerry and the Ballerina toy because this movie needs to pad the runtime and gets resurrected a minute later once again because this movie needs to pad the runtime! Overall, this was a nice final scene but it would have been better if there wasn’t that unnecessary sacrifice of Nelly. Rating- 7.5/10
