Pokémon: Hoenn Anime Review

Pokémon: Hoenn Anime Review

Pokemon journey by reviewing the Hoenn seasons of the Pokemon anime which are Pokemon: Advanced, Pokemon: Advanced Challenge, Pokemon: Advanced Battle and Pokemon: Battle Frontier which have to be some of the worst and most forgettable seasons of Pokemon ever! Let’s begin the review. Okay so Brock of course returns for these Seasons too even after bidding farewell to Ash in one of the final episodes of Johto which ruins that episode for me a little bit but Misty leaves for once and for all. Instead of her comes May who is okay, I guess? I don’t really have much to say about May since she is just a bad version of Dawn and Serena.

I do have a lot to say about Max though, who is one of the most annoying characters in Pokemon, if not the most annoying. Overall, I just really don’t like him. Okay so now let’s talk about the Rivals of this region. Morrison was an absolute joke and Drew was basically James with green hair. Okay so now let’s talk about Ash’s pokemons. Swellow was actually one of the better bird Pokemon that Ash had and way better than Pidgeot. And I didn’t really have any problem with Thunder Armor since it looked pretty cool and hey, the anime doesn’t always have to follow the games’ logic.

Treecko was pretty annoying before it evolved into a Sceptile and Snivy in the Black and White anime was Treecko done right! Corphish tried to replace Kingler and failed miserably since it was annoying too and Torkoal… I hate it. Snorunt was annoying yet cute but when it evolved into a Glalie it turned from annoying and cute to AWESOME! Okay so you remember how I said they really improved the Gym Battles in Johto? Yeah, now they completely destroyed them in Hoenn and I can’t remember one Gym Battle in Hoenn which is as good or iconic as one from Johto, Kanto or even the Orange Islands. The Gym Battles were awful and really boring in Hoenn. Too bad even Sinnoh didn’t improve much on the Gym Battles. Okay so now let’s talk about the most boring Pokemon league in the Pokemon anime– the Hoenn League.

This is such a shame considering Hoenn has such great pokemons but the absolutely ruined it. I really hate how Morrison just didn’t want to battle Ash and kept losing intentionally since that destroyed the entire battle even after he got in the mood of battling Ash. And no, that isn’t “character development” since if they wanted to make his character like that they should have done it with another battle. Maybe ash and Morrison could have battled before and then he would not want to battle with Ash since he doesn’t want to make his friend or rival lose and then Ash would tell him to give it his all in that battle and Morrison would remember that during the league or something like that. The point is, they shouldn’t have done this stupid thing during the league. Anyways, Tyson’s Meowth was pretty cool, I guess, but I found it reallt stupid how a Meowth defeated Pikachu.

Pikachu should have a lot of experience with dealing with a Meowth, right? Sure, it was a better trained Meowth than Team Rocket’s Meowth but it still was a Meowth at the end! How did Pikachu lose to a Meowth? Okay so the Battle Frontier Season had to be the best season of the Hoenn region since it was much more interesting and hey, Ash defeated a few legendary pokemons and won all the Frontier badges and also got an offer of becoming one of the Battle Frontiers. Of course, he refused but it would still be really cool to imagine Ash as a Battle Frontier.

Just think of a new anime or game protagonist facing Ash, who is now a member of the Battle Frontier! How cool would that be?! And also, I really liked how Charizard defeated an Articuno. Also, everyone talks about how Ash pulled out the Pokedex for Koffing in Black and White but nobody talks about how Ash pulled out a Pokedex for a Gengar in the Hoenn region and using Quick Attack, a normal type move against that same Gengar! That’s not fair, is it? Rating- 4/10
