Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Movie Review

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, The opening this movie tells us that this time Jumanji is a video game instead of a board game which is an amazing idea but I think it would make more sense if they just told that Jumanji has always been both a video game and a board game instead of trying to say that the board game Jumanji transported itself into the video game or something.

Seriously, I know that the Jumanji board game has some magical powers but how does it transform itself into a video game just like that? Wouldn’t it make more sense if Alex found a Jumanji cartridge in the first place instead of first finding a board game and then that transforming into a cartridge? Anyways, after that we get a couple of scenes which are an ABSOLUTE CRINGEFEST! They were just so incredibly cringy and this movie turned good only after they went inside the Jumanji video game because before that it was just boring and cringy. Okay so now let’s talk about the video game itself.

While the first movie, even after being a movie that focuses on a board game, didn’t feel more of a board game movie but an adventure movie, this one is a video game move and actually feels like a video game movie more than it does feel like an adventure movie. I really liked the strengths and weaknesses and all that all the characters had and I also liked how all of those came to use at some point in the movie which made it really satisfying.

The lives thing also made every scene much more intense and I really liked how they didn’t have like infinite lives or something like that because I really hate how in some games you get just SO MANY lives. Okay so now let’s talk about the characters of this movie. All of them are really great and I think the casting is just amazing and I don’t think that this movie could have been as funny as it is without this amazing cast. I really didn’t like how Alex was just another version of Alan, though.

I mean, they even have a similarity in their names and Alex literally lives in the hut or something made by Alan! Even the makers of this movie knew that Alex was just an Alan rip off. Maybe it’s an homage but that doesn’t make his character any better. I dunno, couldn’t they have done this homage thing with a less important character? And so yeah, that’s why, there’s really nothing special about Alex.

Okay so you remember how I complained about there being so many spiders and insects and all in the first Jumanji movie in my review of that movie? Well, well, well, this movie doubled the amount of insects because for some reason, the villain of this movie absolutely lovesss insects and I hate him for that. Like, this guy isn’t a good villain in the first place, even without those stupid insects, but they had to make him even worse by making spiders and centipedes and all crawl all over him. Can somebody just call the hunter guy back? He was a much better villain than this insect loving monster. Although, I will have to give them credit where it’s due and I will have to say that this villain did, indeed, feel like a video game villain. Okay so now let’s talk about the final scene.

I really liked that shot where all the fire suddenly lit up and kinda formed a path since I thought that it visually looked really cool. And the lightning and all made it even cooler! The animals in the final scene really reminded me of the old Jumanji movie which is a nice thing but what’s also nice is that there were animals in the final scene instead of insects. I thought that because of how much this villain guy loved insects, the final scene would be littered with gross spiders and centipedes but thankfully, that was not the case. I mean, there were snakes in the final scene but snakes aren’t as gross as spiders so it’s okay. I really liked how Martha cleverly killed herself off with the help of her only weakness- Venom – just to respawn in the sky and give the green stone thingy to Spencer.

They made some clever use of having more than one life in the game which was a really nice touch. And of course they return to the real world after that in a kinda heartwarming scene but after they return the movie unfortunately stops being good once again because this movie just turns so CRINGY when the characters are not in Jumanji. And so yeah, it was a pretty average ending overall. Rating- 7/10
