Abominable Movie Review
Abominable which should probably be renamed as “Abomination” because this truly is a boring abomination of a movie. Let’s begin the review. Okay so first let’s talk about the characters of this movie. The main character is pretty dumb and if this was a horror movie, she would immediately get killed by the Yeti and it’s pretty stupid how she started taking care of a giant creature she has never seen before just after finding it.
The yeti itself is okay, I guess? It would be much better if the trailers didn’t tell us that he had magic in himself, though. It would be pretty surprising to us if it wasn’t spoiled in the trailer and would evoke SOME kind of emotion to us, something that this boring movie never brings to me, at least.
There’s also a scene where the main character asks the Yeti if the Himalayas is his home or not and makes a weird home sign with her hand and the Yeti makes the same sign so she automatically assumes the Himalayas must be his home? That’s SO dumb! How is she sure if the Yeti is just imitating her like all other dumb creatures on this planet or not? Or well, I guess, she is the dumb one here to jump to conclusions so quickly. Orrr, this movie is the dumb one and this movie is just a dumb movie and it being a “kid’s movie” does not excuse that. Jin is a good comic relief character I guess, but the Social Media bad, technology bad message just ruined him for me. Like I hate when movies try to do this Social Media bad thing. What did this movie use to promote itself? SOCIAL MEDIA! Peng is just okay and he is just there.
There’s really not much to him except for him being that bubbly joyful character who is always ready for an adventure. So yeah, Peng is just a discount Russell. Okay so the animation of this movie is absolutely breathtaking. I especially liked that scene where the Yeti first showed his magical powers to the main characters to escape from the bad guys.
That animation was awesome and the beautiful lushy ground rising up like waves was absolutely stunning to see. Okay so let’s talk about the villains. While they might look like trash villains near the beginning of the movie, they really turn good for a couple of minutes near the end. And in fact, when they turn good, this movie also automatically stops being boring. Just goes to show how important a villain is in every movie because the scenes where the villains chase or try to capture the Yeti is much more entertaining than when the main characters are just having a plain old boring adventure. Overall, this movie is definitely not recommended by me if you are over the age of 6. Okay so now we are going into the Spoiler Territory so Spoiler Alert! Okay so one of the better parts of this movie is how the main character named Yi misses her dad.
This movie would have been much more interesting if this movie focused more on this rather than “oOooH Adventureeee” and all. I really wish that it did. Okay so in the final battle the person who was the main villain up until now turns good because of course he does but Dr. Zara, the person who has said that she loves animals up until now to him, finally reveals her true self and tranquilizes the former villain and replaces him and takes off her spectacles to ascend into her final form. This is where the movie gets really good. Dr. Zara is such a good and entertaining villain and I was actually surprised how swiftly she captured the Yeti and almost killed Yi. Yi surviving and saving the Yeti by using magic with her violin in the final scene was really very surprising but in the wrong way though because that was just so stupid.
However, I was even more surprised when Dr. Zara actually went for the kill with the Yeti because that was absolutely surprising and I loved how this animated kids film had the guts to have a villain like this. This movie would have been so much better if Dr. Zara was the villain for the entire movie because she is such an effective villain and her scenes were much better than those boring adventure scenes. Abominable Rating- 5.5/10
